Living area and kitchen are ideal for hanging out, watching TV, eating, playing cards and cooking. Pool table is a bonus and we played every night. Kitchen is well stocked and we cooked in 2 nights. Gas grill on the deck came in handy. Covered porch was great for late night hanging out. House even has 2 laundry rooms and we used both of them. Location is very convenient to Oxmoor Valley and Ross Bridge. All of the courses were great. Rick was very accommodating and helpful. We will always stay here when we come to the RTJ trail.

Absolutely PERFECT place to stay on a golf trip!

We have a group of eight guys that take an annual golf trip somewhere along the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. We had been eyeing this house for a few years, and were finally able to make it work with our timeframe. This place is incredible! The house is about a two minute walk from the Oxmoor Valley clubhouse, and it overlooks the 10th hole of the Ridge course. It's a perfect setup for eight guys to set up shop. We arrived on Thursday night, and never got back in our vehicles until we left on Sunday. We are actually planning next year's trip to Capitol Hill in Prattville, simply because Rick has two houses there as well!

4 night stay at the Oster House..

Had a wonderful time at the Palmer House. Loved the VERY close proximity to the Oxmoor and Ross Bridge golf courses and the 'openness' of the kitchen and entertainment space. Had 4 couples staying and one more couple in for dinner each night and would only suggest that the kitchen have full place settings for at least 12 (including coffee mugs) and more (microwaveable) serving dishes. We liked to cook in! Thanks so much for an amazing place to stay in Alabama!!!

    Owner Response

Thank you so much for your kinds words, and your wish is my command; I am buying more place settings so we can accommodate 12 for dinner. Please come back soon and enjoy the new coffee mugs :)

Fabulous place for our Christmas reunion

Our family and friends, some local to Birmingham and some from out of town, gathered at the Oster Golf House for our Christmas luncheon. We throughly enjoyed our time there. The house is beautiful and was spacious enough to accommodate those who wanted to stay overnight as well as those who came during the day just to visit. With the pool table, Wifi, TVs, DVD player, karaoke machine and large unfinished basement (where the kids set up a corn-hole game) there was plenty of entertainment for everyone. The photos on the website truly do not do this property justice. The furniture in the great room has been updated (there are now three sofas with reclining seats in a U-shape around the fireplace) and all the rooms with their high ceilings feel very open and airy. Rick, his property manager and even the cleaning crew bent over backwards to accommodate our requests. I can't speak highly enough about the experience, from booking through to departure. I would definitely recommend the Oster Golf House and hope that we can stay there again in the future.

    Awesome place, perfect for golfers

Stayed here 4 nights while playing the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. The house is steps from the Oxmoor Valley Course and a short drive from Ross Bridge. There were only four of us and we had tons of room, so the house is plenty big for eight. It was great having our own bedrooms and bathrooms and the kitchen and living areas were spacious and nice. We played pool (I'm amazed a cue-ball hasn't gone through the front window) and poker each night while we watched TV. The only downside to our visit was that the TV's didn't work at all in two of the bedrooms and in the third bedroom it only worked sporadically. Also, this house is tucked back into the woods, so there aren't too many stores or restaurants real close. But it was only a 20 minute drive to anything that wasn't part of the "resort" type atmosphere. Also, the main living area is a fish bowl, no window coverings on any of the front windows. Nothing major, just something to note. Overall, it was a great trip, if we come back and do the Trail again we will definitely stay here. Our last golf round ended just a hair after checkout and they were gracious enough to let us stay an extra little bit to get cleaned up and packed without rushing us out. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone staying in the area.

    Owner Response

Sounds like you had a great time Chris! Thanks for the 5 stars and I hope you come back and stay with us again. I wish you would have told me about the bedroom TV's, but I guess you guys enjoyed the 60" HDTV in the den. I want future guests to know that we have a fantastic caretaker and he gets paid to solve problems. I guarantee he would have determined exactly what the issue was and fixed it, if given the opportunity. (UPDATE: The TV's were on wrong input. It was a simple fix and all are working fine). Also, next time you come, just drive down Lakeshore Parkway and you'll see there are 8 restaurants within 5 miles of our home. One of the best breakfast buffets in Birmingham is just one mile away!

The home is beautiful, very clean, and extremely comfortable. We rented Rick's home in preparation for our daughters graduation from Samford University nearby. Instead of several hotel rooms for members of my family, this worked out terrific! We walked around in pajama's for hours, visited all day into the night, had a chance to catch up with each other, and simply walk to one of the four large rooms with two beautiful queen beds in each to rest! And then we got to do it ALL again the next day! The home is well appointed! We had guests for lunch in between the ceremonies. (Catered NEWKS restaurant with delivery!) Our guests were so impressed with the beautiful kitchen and great room, porch and view! I heard over and over: "What a great idea to rent a home instead of hotel rooms!" The golfers in the family were in awe of the course, especially since there was NO time to play on this very busy weekend! Instead, the game of pool became a serious pastime for many! We will be back! Thanks also to Rick who answered questions quickly and showed such an interest in our plans and comfort!

We cooked and found the kitchen to be well equipped and beautiful; 2 washers and dryers with detergent. . . sweet! Overhead fans and flat screen TVs in each bedroom! We don't play poker but card games every bit as serious and costly - and the big square table even fits 12. We did play pool - a nice addition. Keyless entry - simple. Generous supply of paper products. The proximity to the Oxmoor courses and Ross Bridge (OMG, what a course! excellent dinner also) make this location especially convenient - you can easily walk to the Oxmoor club house + only an hour's drive to Prattville (we played The Judge only . . .scenic beyond words). A couple in our group had played some of the RTJ courses - we all agreed that the 4 we played were top quality, reasonably priced - we also felt the rental cost was reasonable. What would make this better?? Maybe a dozen Pro V1s in each bedroom, chilled beer/wine in the fridge upon arrival. Needless to say, we hope to return to this . . . .or any other Oster House.

Ross Bridge is 2 miles away and another fantastic course, with what appears to be the closest restaurant open after dark as the Oxmoor Valley grill closes at 4pm. Stop on your way and pick up a few groceries. Libby, thank you so much for the 5 star review! It sounds like you thoroughly enjoyed your stay. Yes, our 3 year old, stainless steel, GE PROFILE refrigerator needs a new "circuit board". They sure don't make appliances like they used to!. We have caretakers available 7 days a week to address any issues, so rest assured, it has already been taken care of. Thanks again for choosing to stay in our home!

    Guys Getaway Golf Vacation

Golfers, if you are going to play golf in the Birmingham area and looking for a place to call home for a week, look no further, this is the place! Four large bedrooms all with queen beds and flatscreen tv's and all with a large private bath and large shower (which feels great after a round of golf). The house is a driver shot from Oxmoor Valley Golf Course. After a day of golf and before the sunset we would head to the putting green for a little extra practice. The staff at Oxmoor Valley are familiar with the house and always offered us a cart ride home. The house is perfectly arranged for four couples or as in our case eight guys looking for a place to hang out. Great kitchen and dining room with everything you need to cook in. We used the BBQ several times and during the evening sat out on the screened porch for a cool evening overlooking the golf course. Two laundy rooms is a little bonus as well. We are from California and for the eight of us our first time to Alabama. We played six rounds in five days and drove as far as an hour an a half to play Capitol Hill (36 holes) and Silver Lake. Played both courses at Oxmor Valley as well as Ross Bridge. Can't say enough about the house, a lot better than staying in a local hotel. If you are heading to Alabama for some great golf you owe to yourself to stay and play at this great house! It is everything promised.

Unbelievable location! Walk to the clubhouse at Oxmoor Valley. Such a tranquil setting, even if you do not golf you will be happy in this home. We had 4 couples stay here, both the golfers & the non golfers were happy campers. The owner supplies not only the linens & kitchen essentials, but everything from the shampoo to the laundry detergent. So much more comfortable than an hotel, not to mention how much more fun it is having the space to share meals & entertainment. Everyone was happy, not one complaint. We will do it again!

Great place for a guys golf trip

This is an outstanding property located at the entrance of the Oxmoor Valley golf courses (part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail). It was a perfect house for guys or couples to share while playing golf on the Trail. We had eight guys stay at this house for four night and enjoyed every minute (we ate dinner in the house every night). The kitchen is well-equipped, the towels and linens are first class and the home is spacious and comfortable. We planned our trip last minute after being forced to cancel a golf trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico due to a hurricane. It was a great alternative and all of the guys loved the courses and the camaraderie that came with using this house.

This House is remarkable. It is the perfect setting for a large group of people to enjoy golf and leisure. The beds are so comfortable, which is a must after a very challenging round at Oxmoor. The kitchen is perfect for group cooking with everything needed plus a gas grill on the patio. The view is incredible from all rooms, but those on back of the house have the best. The golf course has a shuttle cart if you are not feeling like taking the 2 minute walk to the club house and the Oxmoor staff is 5 star. Markets and restaurants are within 10 minutes as well as gas and convenient stores. We were a group of 3 couples, all golfers and had a wonderful time. Can’t wait to go back!

It sure beat trying to get together in a hotel room or crowded bar after our round. We loved the courses we played, but this house was probably the highlight of our trip. The home was spacious, very clean and very functional. The bedrooms and bathrooms were large and very well laid out for privacy. The common areas of the home were open and airy. We had 8 golfers and we were never crowded. Golfers can be in the kitchen cooking, in the great room watching tv, in the dining room, or playing pool and all can interact with each other. We cooked in 4 nights and the kitchen was very spacious and had lots of items that travelers would need, but would not want to buy for just a few days. The screened in back porch was large and overlooked the 10th fairway on the Ridge Course. Golfers were so close to the Oxmoor Valley courses that you could walk to the Club House.....we did this several times! Rick was wonderful to work with and very responsive! The house and experience were so nice that it is difficult to think of one negative comment.....you might have to buy ice to keep up with all the beverages you will consume when kicking back after your rounds of golf!!!! Picture this--you arrive with your group, throw your stuff in the house, then call the proshop. They send down 2 shuttles to pick your group up, load your bags on the cart and away you go. After golf, you are shuttled back to the house and the group leader(me) cooks a fabulous meal while your buddies are 1) playing pool 2) cigars on the deck looking out at the course 3)hanging in the gourmet kitchen w/out getting in the cook's way! Perfect golf house for 8 men!

Our group of 8 college buddies stayed in this incredible home for our 6th annual golf trip. Important components of our trip are sharing great meals and watching SEC football, plus just having space to hang out. Everything about this home was well thought out to provide an exceptional experience, from the HDTV's in every room to the plush mattresses, huge well-equipped kitchen, screened in porch, gas grill, room for 8 to sit and watch football, pool table, large square dining room table that 8 men can share with enough room for all. The layout of the home provides quiet sleeping away from the hub of the kitchen, so late sleepers can catch a few more z's while early risers make the coffee. Each bedroom has its own bathroom with a huge walk-in shower (because who needs a bath tub in a man cave?). We all wondered what might be done in the basement to make this place even more fun. Bowling alley for rainy days? We also have high praise for the folks who clean this home since everything was in brand new spotless condition. We are already scanning our calendars to agree on dates to rent this again next year, which is the highest compliment that can be given to any rental home. Thanks for building such a perfectly designed home for a guys golf trip! We will be back!

The home was perfect for a corporate retreat. The description really doesn’t do the home justice. All of my colleagues raved about this space being the “best” they had stayed in for a retreat (and we retreat/conference often). My group couldn't have been more satisfied with our stay at the Oster golf house. We've never stayed directly on the course before, and especially at a home where you can walk out the front door to the clubhouse. The pictures of the home don't do it justice. It's full of extra touches that many VRBO rentals lack. We like variety in our annual golf trip, but we expect to be back, as this offering is hard to pass up. The golf is good, but the home is better. It's a no brainer vs. staying in a hotel. We didn't get to play Ross Bridge due to maintenance, but Oxmoor's nice enough. If you are coming from Atlanta, consider hitting Silver Lakes on the way in. Very challenging and well manicured course.

Everything was great! Owner was helpful, friendly, responsive. Good quality house. Clean. Plenty of space for 8 guys. Beds were comfortable. Nice amenities and finishes (5 plasma TVs, wifi, screened in porch, 2 washer/dryers, 2 AC units, etc.). Everything was as nice as advertised. We also used it as home base for visiting Tuscaloosa for the Alabama game. Only downside is proximity to retail and restaurants was just a little farther than we'd have liked....but was definitely manageable. Also, since the house is new, address was not easy to find by navigation system. We knew this ahead of time, but it did cause some challenges/delays with having food delivered or taxi pickup. We got through it, but it would have helped if the owner had a list of these services that are good, close by, and easy way to explain (or that knew how to get there). Not something we expected necessarily, but would have been a nice touch. Overall, EXCELLENT. If and when we go back to the RTJ Trail, we'd definitely stay at this house again. Thanks so much Rick!

    Owner Response

Thank you, John, for giving us the highest rating possible! It sounds like you guys had a great time. For future guests, there are numerous restaurants and retail stores close to the house. The Ross Bridge Resort is 1.2 miles away and has two good restaurants. In fact, they have one of the best breakfast buffets you'll ever find. If that doesn't interest you, the following places are less than 5 miles from our front door, on Lakeshore Parkway: Landry's Steakhouse, Hooter's (just sayin), Bruno's Supermarket, Starbuck's, Overtime Sportsbar & Grill, Outback Steakhouse, IHOP, WalMart, Sam's... and many more. To make your stay even more enjoyable, let us do the shopping for you. Simply email your grocery list to us and we will take care of the rest. Everything will be in the kitchen when you arrive! As far as directions, some GPS systems don't recognize newly constructed homes. In that case, simply use the address of the Oxmoor Valley Golf Clubhouse: 100 Sunbelt Parkway, Birmingham, AL, 35211. We are only 175 yards from the clubhouse, on the same street. You have to drive past our home to get to the clubhouse. There are only four homes on the street and we are the last one on the right. I want to apologize to John because there should be a binder in the home providing this information. Thanks to him, I will get that binder finished asap!

Awesome home on the RTJ Trail!!!

This house was done right! It has four rooms with 2 beds each. Each has a private full bath and there is a 1/2 bath off the living room. The kitchen is open and looks out over the living making it very easy to cook and still be part of the group. We were there as a group of 6 guys and we'd totally rent this house again if we head back to the trail. This house is also the very last house before you get to the golf course, so you can't get any closer. You're also right on the 10th fairway so you can stop by to freshen up your beer when you're on the course... I highly recommend this for any group that's going to the Trail to play golf and wants to stay together as opposed to getting 4 hotel rooms - WAY better!!!!
